Basking Sharks

Those who caught sight of the eclipse at Cornwall may have also had time to observe the plankton-eating Basking Sharks. These creatures have been sorely treated by us through the years, but are now protected and areslowly recovering in numbers (we think, but are not sure yet).

There seems to be more down in the south west this year than in previous-years and hopefully we will see a few up in the Firth of Clyde, just off the Ayrshire coast and Arran.

Basking Shark
Down in Cornwall and Devon the local fishermen know their basking sharks so well that they've given them pet names look out for the same individuals each year.
